About the Project

“After the Wars” is the work of Points of View Productions, composed of photographer Paul Calhoun and radio producer/reporter Ben Calhoun. The father-son team completed this work over the course of 2009 and 2010. Cate Cahan edited the project.

Paul Calhoun is a documentary photographer based in Milwaukee. Ben Calhoun is a radio producer/reporter based in New York. Cate Cahan is a senior editor at WBEZ.

The production team would like to offer special thanks to Aaron Cahan; Richard Cahan; Don Hall; Sally Eisele; Elena Calhoun; Lauren Calhoun; Catrin Einhorn; Jamie Kalven; Robert Wildeboer; Tony Arnold; The Invisible Institute; the support, web, and marketing staffs at WBEZ; Jeremi Suri at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and Michael Allen at Northwestern University. Your consultation, hard work, and help were invaluable. We are also grateful to Will Schmutz with the City of Chicago, John Mundt at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, and the many veterans’ organizations who assisted us.

This project was made possible through the support of WBEZ, and by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council.

Most of all, we are grateful for the generosity, honesty, and patience of all the veterans who chose to share their experiences and lives with us. Thank you so very much.
